Bismillaah wa -Alhamdulillaah wa Salaatu wa Salaam 'alaa Rasulillaah 'amma ba'd

Muwahhideen Publications is pleased to announce a LIVE Tele-lecture with the Noble Shaykh ‘Ali al-Qaleesee (May Allaah Preserve him) who will lecture to us concerning the impermissible backbiting and slander on Saturday 2nd February, 2013. The Shaykh, who is a graduate of the Islaamic University in Madeenah, is also a student of Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul Wahhab al-Wasaabee (May Allaah preserve him). He also teaches at Masjid-us-Sunnah in Hodaidah, Yemen. This lecture event will be broadcast LIVE in three Masaajid in Trinidad & Tobago and five Masaajid in the U.S. In Trinidad & Tobago: Masjid Ibn 'Abbaas, Tobago, Masjid ul Khaleefah and Masjid us Sunnah, and in the US: Masjid Al-Bukhaari, Florida, Masjid Ibn 'Abbas, Georgia, Masjid Uthaymeen, New Jersey, and Masjid NurAllaah, New York, and Masjid Tawheed, Michigan.

This session will be translated LIVE into English by Hisham Abouzeid Inshaa’Allaah.

Allaah, the Almighty said,
"And backbite not one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful.'' [Soorah Hujuraat: 12]
“Backbiting was sternly warned against, and this is why Allaah the Exalted and Most Blessed compared it to eating the flesh of a dead human being. Just as you hate eating the flesh of a dead person, on account of your nature; so hate backbiting, on account of your religion. The latter carries a punishment that is worse than the former.” [Taken from Tafseer Ibn Kathir]

Elaborating on what encompasses backbiting, Abu Hurayrah (radhiyAllaahu ‘anhu) said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said,
"Do you know what is backbiting?'' The Companions said: "Allaah and His Messenger know better.'' Thereupon he said, "Backbiting is talking about your (Muslim) brother in a manner which he dislikes.'' It was said to him: "What if my (Muslim) brother is as I say.'' He said, "If he is actually as you say, then that is backbiting; but if that is not in him, that is slandering.''
[Muslim].

So how many of us fall into this great sin, perhaps without even recognizing it! It is incumbent upon us to be diligent in safeguarding ourselves against this destructive affair.
Shaykh al-Qaleesee (hafidhahullaah) will endeavour to clarify exactly what constitutes backbiting and slander and by the Permission of Allaah we will all strive to be mindful of what we utter and be encouraged to speak a good word or remain silent.

We ask Allaah to make us from those who are devoutly obedient to Him and we seek refuge in Him from ever going astray.
