Violent Winds

The Prophet (salAllahu alaihe wa salam) used to say when a wind would blow violently:

"O Allah!  Verily I ask you for the best of it, and the best of what is in it, and the best of what You have sent with it, and I seek refuge with You from the evil of it, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what you sent with it."

 (Recorded by Muslim)

He also said:

“Do not abuse/revile the wind, for verily, it is from the spirits sent from Allah, the Most high. It brings forth mercy and it brings forth punishment, therefore ask Allah for the best of it and seek refuge with Allah from the evil of it”

[Collected by Ahmad and it has been declared authentic by Albani 7316]

Udhiyah Abroad

Buying a “Sacrifice” via Various Charitable Organisations to be Slaughtered Abroad for the Poor?
Written by Abu Muadh Taqweem Aslam (hafidhahullaah) on October 22, 2012

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

It is a common practice for Charity Organisations to advertise and offer “sacrifices” to be done abroad and distributed to the poor in exchange for a fee to cover the costs of the slaughtering. Many individuals who desire to sacrifice engage in this activity and perhaps find a greater degree of ease in simply buying a “sacrifice” from a Charity who will slaughter on their behalf abroad for the poor.

The following is the fatwa of Shaikh al-Fawzan on this issue:

Q: “A fatwa has spread from you in recent times that paying money to Charity Organisations for the slaughtering [to be done on your behalf] is against the Sunnah? What’s your opinion on this oh Shaikh?”

A: “Yes I say this now, The legislated sacrifice is done in the household [i.e. by the by person himself in his country], the household of the one slaughtering, amongst his children, and amongst his neighbours, the one slaughtering eats from it, him and his children, and they give it in charity [distribute it] and give it as a gift…so they are to be slaughtered in the houses, in the houses of the muslims [i.e. done yourselves and not abroad] so that the household obtains its benefits, apparent and concealed.

However if it slaughtered in some other place [abroad] then these distinctions that the slaughtering was prescribed for are lost; as for an individual who wishes to give it in charity [i.e. those who may claim that the poor will benefit from the sacrifice abroad more than us, which may be true] then give in charity generally [i.e. send money abroad to them in any case any time] – as for the specific acts of worship then they are to remain as they have been prescribed. Indeed the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم would sacrifice in his household, and the companions would sacrifice in their households and they never sent money outside or abroad for animals to be bought and slaughtered there, since that causes the benefits of slaughtering to be forfitted, so indeed it is a rite of Islam [prescribed in a particular way to be done].

[vis Sahab]

This should clarify the affair; for indeed many are always confused as to why it is better to do it yourselves in your locations rather than send to the poor abroad, the Shaikh clarifies it is an Islamic Rite prescribed to be done yourselves and not abroad, as for the poor abroad then no-one has prevented you from aiding them and being charitable since you are free to send whatever amount of money and food as you wish abroad at whatever time – ‘Eid or otherwise -, however the rite of islam in terms of the slaughtering is not to be specified, that is to be done yourselves and distributed within family and neighbours etc.

The Goal of the Sacrifice

Allah says: this sacrifice is prescribed for you so that you will remember Him at the time of slaughter, for He is the Creator and Provider. Nothing of its flesh or blood reaches Him, for He has no need of anything other than Himself. During the time of Jahiliyyah, when they offered sacrifices to their gods, they would put some of the meat of their sacrifices on their idols, and sprinkle the blood over them. But Allah says:

(It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah,) Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ibn Jurayj said, "The people of the Jahiliyyah used to put the meat of their sacrifices and sprinkle the blood on the House, and the Companions of the Messenger of Allah said, "We have more right to do that.'' Then Allah revealed the words:

(It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is Taqwa from you that reaches Him.) That is what He will accept and reward for, as mentioned in the Sahih,

(Allah does not look to your appearance or your colors, but He looks to your hearts and deeds.) And in the Hadith; (Indeed charity falls in the Hand of Ar-Rahman before it falls in the hand of the one asking.)

(Thus have We made them subject to you) meaning, `for this purpose We have subjugated the Budn for you,'

(that you may proclaim Allah's greatness for His guidance to you.) means, that you may glorify Him for guiding you to His religion and His way which He loves and is pleased with, and has forbidden you to do all that He hates and rejects.

(And give glad tidings to the doers of good.) means, `give good news, O Muhammad, to those who do good,' i.e., whose deeds are good and who remain within the limits prescribed by Allah, who follow that which has been prescribed for them, who believe in the Messenger and follow that which he has conveyed from his Lord.

(Note) The Udhiyyah is Sunnah Mustahabbah One animal is sufficient on behalf of all the members of one household. Ibn `Umar said, "The Messenger of Allah continued to offer sacrifice for ten years.'' This was recorded by At-Tirmidhi. Abu Ayyub said: "At the time of the Messenger of Allah , a man would sacrifice a sheep on behalf of himself and all the members of his household, and they would eat from it and feed others, until the people started boasting ﴿by sacrificing more than one﴾ and things reached the stage that you see now.'' This was recorded by At-Tirmidhi, who graded it Sahih, and by Ibn Majah. `Abdullah bin Hisham used to sacrifice one sheep on behalf of his entire family; this was recorded by Al-Bukhari. Concerning how old the sacrificial animal should be, Muslim recorded from Jabir that the Messenger of Allah said:

(Do not sacrifice any but mature animals, and if that is not possible, then sacrifice a young sheep.)

(38. Truly, Allah defends those who believe. Verily, Allah likes not any treacherous ingrate.)

Significance and Virtue of the Day of 'Arafah

Significance & Virtues of the Day of Arafah

Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for two years. :

The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of ’Arafah, since it is on this day that the pilgrims gather at the mountain plain of ’Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord. It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not pilgrims to fast on this day, since the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) was asked about fasting on the day of ’Arafah, so he said, “It expiates the sins (Minor) of the past year and the coming year.” [Muslim (no. 1162)]

Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d.275H) - rahimahullaah – said, “The People of Knowledge consider it recommended to fast on the day of ’Arafah, except for those at ’Arafah.” [Muslim (no. 1348)]

[ Source: The Month of Dhul-Hijjah - Al-Istiqaamah Magazine, Issue No.6 ]

Allah frees slaves from the fire on Arafat more than any other day

Likewise, the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘There is no day on which Allaah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ’Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ’Arafah), and then He revels before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.” [Jaami’ut-Tirmidhee (3/377)]

[ Source: The Month of Dhul-Hijjah - Al-Istiqaamah Magazine, Issue No.6 ]

Forgiveness of the Sins even if they are like the foam on the Sea

As for you staying till the evening in Arafah, then Allaah descends to the sky of the Duniya and He boasts about you to the Angels, and says: ‘My slaves have come to Me, looking rough, from every deep valley hoping for My mercy, so if your sins were equivalent to the amount of sand or the drops of rain or like the foam on the sea I will forgive them. So go forth My slaves! Having forgiveness and for what or who you have interceded for.’

[Reported by at-Tabarani in his book “al-Kabeer” and by al-Bazaar. Shaykh Al-Albani graded it Hassan. Taken from ‘Saheeh al-Targheeb wa Tarheeb’. Volume 2, Page 9-10, hadeeth no. 1112]

[Source : Ahadith regarding the benefits and blessings of Hajj - Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya
Taken from 'Saheeh al-Targheeb wa Tarheeb' By the Shaykh Muhammad Nasr ud-Deen al-Albaani]

It is the day on which the religion was perfected and Allaah’s Favour was completed.

In Al-Saheehayn it was reported from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) that a Jewish man said to him, “O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, there is an aayah in your Book which you recite; if it had come to us Jews, we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid (festival).” ‘Umar said, “Which aayah?” He said: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [al-Maa’idah 5:3 – interpretation of the meaning]. ‘Umar said, “We know on which day and in which place that was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was when he was standing in ‘Arafaah on a Friday.”

Allaah expresses His pride to His angels

It was reported from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah expresses His pride to His angels at the time of ‘Ishaa’ on the Day of ‘Arafaah, about the people of ‘Arafaah. He says, ‘Look at My slaves who have come unkempt and dusty.’”

Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.

The standing on ‘Arafaat is the hajj. The crowds should remind you of the Day of Resurrection. Humble yourself to Allaah, manifest your ‘uboodiyyah to Him Alone through du’aa, sincere intention and strong determination to free yourself from the sins of the past and to build up a commitment to rush for doing what is good. Think of becoming a better person when you return. Rid yourself of false pride and showing off because it may ruin what you gain on this day.

The Best Days In the World

The Blessed Days of Dhul Hijjah

In what follows, we will highlight some of the Sunnah regarding these days, hoping by this to provide an incentive to make the best out of them and gain Allaah’s reward, in shaa’ Allaah.

The First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah

"The best days in the world are the Ten days." [Ibn Hibbaan, al-Bazzaar, authenticated in Saheeh Jaami` us-Sagheer #1133]
"There are no days during which good deeds are more beloved by Allaah than these (ten) days." [al-Bukhaaree, at-Tirmidhee and others] The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, was then asked: "Not even Jihaad in Allaah’s way?" He replied: "Not even Jihaad in Allaah’s way; except for a person who went out (for Jihaad) with his self and wealth and came back with none (i.e. lost all for Allaah)." [at-Tirmidhee, authenticated in al-Albaanee’s Irwaa’ ul-Ghaleel, #953]
All good deeds can be done during these days and the early generations of Muslims used to exert themselves excessively in worshipping Allaah. In particular, fasting and dhikr (mentioning and remembering Allaah) are to be done in plenty on these days.

Dhikr

Ibn `Abbaas commented on the verse <<…and to mention Allaah’s name [plentifully] on Known days>> [ 22:28 ] by saying: <…these known days are the ten days [of Dhul Hijjah].> [Tafseer ibn Katheer]

Fasting

One of the wives of the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: "Allaah’s Messenger used to fast the (first) nine days of Dhul Hijjah, the day of `Ashooraa’, and three days of each month. [Saheeh Sunan Abee Daawood #2129]
Fasting on all these days, however, is not a waajib (compulsory), nor is it a constant sunnah that the Messenger, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, never dropped. `Aa’ishah said: "I never saw the Messenger, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, fast the ten days." [Muslim]
The Day of `Arafah - The Best Day of the Whole Year
The day of `Arafah is the day when the pilgrims stand in worship on the Mountain of `Arafah.
"Fasting the day of `Arafah expiates the [minor] sins of two years: a past one and a coming one. And fasting the day of `Aashooraa’ expiates the sins of the past year." [Muslim]
"There is no day on which Allaah `azza wa jall frees people from the Fire as He does no the day of `Arafah. He comes close (to those standing on `Arafah) and then revels before His angels, saying: "What are these people seeking?" [Muslim]

The Day of al-`Ad-haa

The tenth of Dhul-Hijjah is `Eed ul- Ad-haa or the day of an-Nahr (slaughtering). It marks the conclusion of the major rites of Hajj, and commemorates Allaah’s bounty on His Messenger Ibraaheem, when He gave him a ram to sacrifice as ransom for his son Ismaa`eel, `alayhimassalaam.
"The day of al-Fitr [i.e. `Eed ul-Fitr], the day of an-Nahr, and the days of Tashreeq are `Eed days for us Muslims. They are days of eating and drinking." [Ahmad, an-Nasaa’ee, Saheeh ul-Jaami` #8192]

The Three Days Following `Eed ul-`Ad-haa

On these days, the pilgrims complete their rites, Muslims continue with their `Eed celebrations, and are prohibited to fast. "The days of tashreeq are days of eating, drinking and mentioning Allaah." [Muslim]

The Sacrifice

Allaah `azza wa jall mentioned the sacrifice together with the first and foremost worship in Islaam: prayer. This is a clear indication of its great importance. Thus He ordered His Messenger, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, to slaughter sacrifices by saying: <<…Pray unto your Lord and slaughter [your sacrifice]…" [109:2]

Ruling

The general concensus of the Muslim scholars is that the sacrifice is an important sunnah, and a worship called for in the Law of Allaah. However, they differ as to whether it is nafl (voluntary) or waajib (mandatory) for those who can afford it. Some scholars have explained the different ahaadeeth on the subject by stating that the sacrifice is obligatory on those who can afford it and not obligatory on those who cannot.
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: "He who has the capacity, and does not sacrifice, may not approach our musallaa (place of prayer - on the `Eed)." [Ibn Maajah, Ahmad and others, authenticated by Al-Albaanee in Saheeh Sunan Ibn Maajah, #2533]
Regarding this hadeeth, Imaam ash-Shaukaanee said: "Prohibiting the one who could afford to sacrifice, but did not do so, from approaching the musallaa indicates that he must have left off a waajib, as it becomes useless to offer the salaah without this waajib [obligation]." [Nayl ul-Awtaar]

The Excellence of 'La ilaha 'illa Allaah'

The Excellence of ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’

‘There is None Worthy of Worship, in Truth, Except Allaah’

By
Hafidh al-Hakami
-Rahimullaah-
Taken from his book
‘Ma’arij al-Qabool’

Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

The words in the testification ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ are words which are the path to the success of entry into Paradise and salvation from the fire.

Allaah -Azza wa Jal- said: << And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. >> [Al-Imraan:  185]

It is the way and path to happiness in the two worlds which cannot be reached except by these words.  It is with this statement that Allaah sent His Messengers and with it, He revealed His Books.  The Dunya and the Hereafter, Paradise and Hell-Fire were created for this statement.

Happiness and wretchedness are directly related to this testification.  Due to it, the records of deeds will be taken either to the right or the left and the scale will be either heavy or light.  By it is being saved from the Fire after its advent whilst not adhering to ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ is remaining in the Fire.

Due to it, Allaah took the covenant, because of it is recompense and accountability and regarding it, will be the questioning on the Day of Meeting.

As Allaah –Ta’ala- says: << So, by your Lord, We shall certainly call all of them to account. For all that they used to do. >> [Al-Hijr: 92-93]

Allaah –Ta’ala- said : << Then surely, We shall question those (people) to whom it (the Book) was sent and verily, We shall question the Messengers. >> [A’raaf: 6]

As for Allaah –Ta’ala- questioning those to whom ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ was sent, on the Day of Judgement, then from that is His saying- << And (remember) the Day (Allaah) will call to them and say: ‘What answer gave you to the Messengers?’>> [Qasas: 65] along with the preceding, following and other Aayaat.

As for Allaah questioning the Messengers then from that is the saying of Allaah –Ta’ala- << On the Day when Allaah will gather the Messengers together and say to them: ‘What was the response you received (from men to your teaching)? They will say: ‘We have no knowledge, verily, only You are the All-Knower of all that is hidden (or unseen, etc.).’>> [al-Mai’dah:109] and there are other similar Aayaat.

It is the greatest of blessings from Allaah -Azza wa Jal– that He blessed His slaves and guided them to ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’.  This is why Allaah Ta’ala mentioned it in Soorah an-Nahl, the Soorah of blessings, so He proceeded with it before every other blessing.

He said: <<He sends down the angels with inspiration of His Command to whom of His slaves He pleases (saying): Warn mankind that Lâ ilâha illa Ana (none has the right to be worshipped but I), so fear Me (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds). >> [Nahl: 2]

It is the statement of testification and the key to the land of happiness.  It is the foundation of the Deen and its founding principle, the head of the affair, the trunk of its tree and the pillar of its canopy.

The rest of the pillars and obligations of the Deen extend and branch out from this testification.  Its completion is restricted to adhering to its meaning and performing what it requires.  It is the strong handhold that will never break regarding which Allaah -Azza wa Jal- said: << Whoever disbelieves in Tâghût (false gods) and believes in Allaah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. >> [al-Baqarah: 256]

Sa’eed bin Jubayr and Dhihaak said that:

‘It is the contract which Allaah -Azza wa Jal- mentioned when he said: <<None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as has received permission (or promise) from the Most Beneficent (Allaah). >> [Maryam: 87]

Abdullaah ibn Abbas -radiAllaah anhuma- said: ‘It is the testification of ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’, renouncing any capability or strength for other than Allaah and not hoping except in Allaah -Azza wa Jal.’

La ilaha ‘illa Allaah is al-Husna (the best – i.e. its meaning as stated by Allaah -Azza wa Jal- when He said: <<As for him who gives (in charity), keeps his duty to Allaah and fears Him, And believes in Al-Husna. We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). >> [Layl: 5-7]

This was also mentioned by Abu AbdurRahman as-Sulamee, Dhihaak and was narrated by ‘Ateeyah on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas.

It is the statement of truth which Allaah -Azza wa Jal- mentioned when He –Ta’ala said: << except those who bear witness to the truth (i.e. believed in the Oneness of Allaah, and obeyed His Orders), and they know (the facts about the Oneness of Allaah). >> [Zukhruf :86]  as stated by al-Baghawi.

It is the statement of Taqwaa (piety) as Allaah -Azza wa Jal- mentioned when He said: << and made them stick to the word of piety (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah) and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it. >> [Fath: 26]

This was mentioned by Ibn Jareer and Abdullaah bin Ahmad, by Tirmidhi with ‘asaaneed (chains) up to Ubayy bin Ka’ab -radiAllaah anhu- on the authority of the Prophet - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.

It is the statement which is firmly-fixed as Allaah -Azza wa Jal- mentions when He says: <<Allaah will keep firm those who believe with the word that stands firm in this world (i.e. they will keep on worshipping Allaah Alone and none else) and in the Hereafter. >> [Ibraheem: 27]

Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of al-Bara bin ‘Aazib -radiAllaah anhu- from the Prophet - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.

It is the good statement (kalimah Tayyibah) which was previously made a solid example as Allaah –Ta’ala- says: <<Do you not see how Allaah sets forth a parable? – A goodly word as a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches (reach) to the sky (i.e. very high). >> [Ibraheem: 24]

This is what was mentioned by ‘Alee bin Talha on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas.

The foundation of this statement ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ is firmly fixed in a believer’s heart, its branches are righteous actions which ascend to the sky - to Allaah -Azza wa Jal.

This is what was mentioned by Dhihaak, Sa’eed bin Jubair, Ikrima’, Mujahid and others.

It is the goodness which Allaah –Azza wa Jal– mentions when He says: <<Whoever brings a good deed shall have ten times the like thereof >> [An’aam: 160]

Allaah –Ta’ala– said: <<Whoever brings a good deed (i.e. Belief in the Oneness of Allaah along with every deed of righteousness), will have better than its worth and they will be safe from the terror on that Day. >> [Naml: 89]

This was mentioned by Zain al-Abideen and Ibraheem an-Nakha’aee and it is ascribed to the Messenger on the authority of Abee Dharr - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – that he said: ‘It is the best of righteous deeds.’[1]

This statement ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ wipes out sins and mistakes.

It is the highest description which Allaah -Azza wa Jal- mentions when He says: << His is the highest description (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but He and there is nothing comparable unto Him) in the heavens and in the earth.>> [Room: 27]

As was mentioned by Qatadah and Muhammad bin Jareer, also by Malik on the authority of Muhammad bin al-Munkadir.

It is the means for success as is mentioned in Saheeh Muslim that when the Prophet - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – heard the Mu’adhin (the caller to the prayer) saying: ‘Ashhadu alla ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ (I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah’) he - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said: ‘You have exited the fire.’[2]

On the authority of Ubadah bin Saamitt -radiAllaah anhu- who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – saying: ‘Whoever testifies that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah then Allaah prohibits the Fire for him.’ [3]

In the hadeeth of intercession: ‘Take out from the Fire whoever said ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ and had in his heart the like of an atom’s worth of Eemaan.’[4]

‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ is the means of entering into Paradise as is mentioned in Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Ubadah bin Saamitt -radiAllaah anhu- who said: The Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said: ‘Whoever says ‘Ashhadu alla ilaha ‘illa Allaah wahdahu la shareeka lahu wa anna Muhammadan Abduhu wa Rasooluhu (I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah Alone and He has no partners and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger’) and that Isa is the slave of Allaah and the son of Allaah’s female slave, he was created by a word which was sent to Maryam and he is a command from Him, that Paradise is true and the Fire is true’, then Allaah will enter him into Paradise from whichever of the eight doors of Paradise he chooses.’[5]

In another narration: ‘Allaah enters him into Paradise with what he has of actions.’[6]

It is the best thing with which Allaah -Azza wa Jal- is remembered and the heaviest thing on the slave of Allaah’s scale on the Day of Judgement as mentioned in ‘Musnad’ on the authority of Abdullaah bin Amr -radiAllaah anhu- from the Prophet - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam:

‘When death was approaching the Prophet of Allaah, Nooh -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – he said to his son: I will narrate to you my bequest; I command you with two things and prohibit you from two things.  I command you with ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ (‘There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah), if the seven heavens and the seven earths were placed upon one scale and ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ was placed on the other, then ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’  would be heavier.

If the seven heavens and the seven earths were a closed circle then ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ would be able to break it.

The second thing I command you with is Subhana Allaahi wa bihamdihi (Far is Allaah from imperfection and praise is for Him), since it is a supplication for everything and by it, the creation is given its provision.

I prohibit you from Shirk and pride. (The narrator said: I asked or someone asked) : O Messenger of Allaah as for Shirk then we know about it, but what is pride?  Is it that one of us has sandals with two good straps?

The Messenger answered: No.

He asked again: Is it that one of us has companions and they sit with him?

The Messenger again answered: No.

Someone asked: O Messenger of Allaah, what is pride?

He said: Ridiculing the truth and belittling and reviling the people.’[7]

Also in ‘Musnad’ on the authority of Abdullaah bin Amr -radiAllaah anhu- from the Prophet - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam: ‘Musa –alayhi Sallam- said: ‘O Lord teach me something by which I can remember You and supplicate to You.’

He said: O Musa say ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’

Musa said: O Lord everyone of Your slaves says this.’

He said: O Musa say ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’

He said: ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ but I want something specific for me.

He said: O Musa if the seven heavens and the seven earths and what is in them other than Me were placed on a scale and ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ was placed on the scale then ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ would outweigh them.’[8]

In Tirmidhi, Nisa’ee and in Musnad on the authority of Abdullaah bin Amr bin al-Aas -radiAllaah anhu- who said I heard the Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam –saying:

‘Indeed Allaah will single out a man from my Ummah in front of all the people on the Day of Judgement.  Ninety-nine scrolls will be unrolled for him; every scroll will stretch as far as the eye can see.

Then Allaah will say: Do you deny anything of this?  Did the Angels recording your deeds oppress you?

So the man will say: No, my Lord.

Allaah will say: Do you have an excuse?

The man will say: No, my Lord.

Allaah will say: Yes, indeed, We have a good deed for you and indeed, there will be no oppression upon you today.’

Then a card will be brought forth and in it will be: ‘I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.’

Then Allaah will say: Bring your bad deeds.

The man will say: What is this card compared with these scrolls?

Allaah will say: Indeed, you will not be oppressed.

The Prophet continued: The scrolls will be put on one side of the scales and the card will be put on the other side, the scrolls will be light and the card will be heavy, there can be nothing more heavy than the name of Allaah.’[9]
