The book to be studied is Lum'at-ul-'Itiqaad (Sufficiency in Creed) authored by Imaam Muwaffaq-ud-Deen Abu Muhammad 'Abdullaah ibn Ahmad Ibn Qudaamah al-Maqdisi (d.620 AH), May Allaah have mercy upon him, from the great scholars of the salaf us saalih (righteous predecessors) of this ummah (nation) from the 6th and 7th century. Ibn al-Jawzee (rahimahullaah) said about him, "Whoever sees him, then it is as if he has seen one of the companions." Also Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said, "The saying of Shaykh ul Islaam Muwaffaq-ud-Deen Abu Muhammad 'Abdullaah ibn Ahmad al-Maqdisi, of whom all the groups of Islaam have agreed upon his acceptance, his excellence and his scholarship, except for the jahmiyyah or the mu'tilah..."

Live Lecture! Shaykh Muhammad al Wasabi: When The Fitnah Rages Seek Sanctuary

Bismillaah wa -Alhamdulillaah wa Salaatu wa Salaam 'alaa Rasulillaah 'amma ba'd
On Thursday 27thDecember, 2012, Muwahhideen Publications will host a LIVE tele-link lecture with Ash-Shaykh Al-Allaamah Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul Wahhab al-Wasaabee (hafidhahullaah), who is from the major scholars of Yemen. The Shaykh is a student of the likes of Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez Ibn BaazShaykh Naasir-ud-Deen Al-AlbaaniShaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘UthaymeenShaykh Muqbil Ibn Hadee al-Waadi’eeShaykh Hammad al-AnsaariShaykh Bakr Ibn ‘Abdullaah Abu Zayd and others. Shaykh Muqbilreferred to Shaykh Muhammad al- Wasaabee as the Mufti of Yemen in some of his lessons. It is also reported that he referred to Shaykh Muhammad as 'my khaleefah' (sucessor). Shaykh Ahmed an-Najmi(rahimahullaah) called him Al-Aalim al-Jaleel (great scholar). This event will be broadcast LIVE in Masjid Ibn 'Abbaas, Tobago, two masaajid in Trinidad, Masjid ul Khaleefah and Masjid us Sunnah, and six masaajid in the U.S. Masjid Al-Bukhaari, Florida, Masjid Ibn 'Abbas, Georgia, Masjid Uthaymeen, New Jersey, Masjid Nur Allaah, New York, Masjid as-Sahabah, Ohio and Masjid Tawheed, Michigan.
This lecture event will be translated LIVE into English by Hisham Abouzeid InshaaAllaah.
Abu Hurayrah (radhiyAllaahu ‘anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,
“There shall soon be a Fitnah (trial and tribulation): the one who sits in that time is better than the one who stands, and the one who stands is better than the one who walks, and the one who walks is better than the one who hastens to it. And the closer you get to it, the closer it would get to you. Therefore, whoever is able to seek refuge in a shelter, let him do it.” [Bukhari #3602, Muslim #6886]
According to Shaykh Ibn Baaz (rahimahullaah), “The temptations that are meant in this hadeeth are the ones that are vague and ambiguous, and the way of truth in them is unknown; rather it is mixed up. Such are the temptations which the believer is advised to abstain from and stay far away from it with whatever way necessary.”
Additionally, Hudhayfah Ibn al-Yamaan (radhiyAllaahu 'anhu) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah(sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) say,
“Trials and Tribulations will be presented to the hearts just like as a reed mat is interwoven, stick by stick. Any heart which absorbs these trials will have a black mark put in it. However, any heart that rejects them will have a white mark put in it. The result is that hearts will be of (one of) two kinds: one white like a white stone, which will not be harmed by trials as long as the heavens and earth endure; and the other dark and rusty, like an over-turned vessel, not able to recognize the good, nor reject evil, but rather being absorbed with its desires.”
According to Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah), "The fitan (trials) which are presented to the hearts - and which are the cause of its weakness - are the trials relating to shahwah (false desire) and the trials relating toshubhah (doubt). So the first causes intentions and desires to be corrupted, whilst the second causes knowledge and beliefs to be corrupted.”
In this deranged time, fitan seems to be coming to the believer from all directions and in order to safeguard our hearts we must stick to the deen of Allaah and the sunnah of His Messenger (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) as much as we are able and not delve into matters in which we are not qualified to engage in.
Our Noble Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul Wahhab al-Wasaabee (hafidhahullaah) will present us with the many proofs from the book and the sunnah pertaining to this crucial topic as we are all in dire need of learning about the means by which we can escape these fitan and preserve our Deen.
We ask Allaah to keep our feet firm upon the Straight Path and we seek refuge in Him from ever deviating from it.

Live Lecture! Shaykh Muhammad al-Imaam: Ascribing to Allaah a Son

Bismillaah wa -Alhamdulillaah wa Salaatu wa Salaam 'alaa Rasulillaah 'amma ba'd
Muwahhideen Publications is very pleased to announce a LIVE Tele-lecture with the Noble Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdullaah al-Imaam (May Allaah Preserve him) who will lecture to us concerning the blasphemy of the christians in them ascribing to Allaah a son, on Tuesday 25th December, 2012. The Shaykh supervises Markaz Dar-ul-Hadeeth in Ma'barYemen and is one of the major scholars of our time, May Allaah preserve him. This lecture event will be broadcast LIVE in three Masaajid in Trinidad & Tobago and five Masaajid in the U.S. In Trinidad & Tobago: Masjid Ibn 'Abbaas, Tobago, Masjid ul Khaleefah and Masjid us Sunnah, and in the US: Masjid Al-Bukhaari, Florida, Masjid Ibn 'Abbas, Georgia, Masjid Uthaymeen, New Jersey, and Masjid NurAllaah, New York, and Masjid Tawheed, Michigan.
This session will be translated LIVE into English Inshaa’Allaah.
Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala says in His Noble Book,
“And they say: “The Most Beneficent (Allaah) has begotten a son (or offspring or children). Indeed you have brought forth (said) a terrible evil thing. Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins. That they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the Most Beneficent (Allaah).” [Soorah Maryam: 88-91]
Explaining these powerful verses,
Ibn Jareer reported that Ibn `Abbaas said concerning Allaah's statement,
“Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins, that they ascribe a son to the Most Gracious.”
"Verily, the heavens, the earth, the mountains and all creatures - except for humans and Jinns -are frightened by the associating of partners with Allaah. Creation will almost cease existing before the association of partners with Allaah, due to His Greatness."
Ad-Dahhak said, "This means to be split apart into pieces due to the fear of the magnificence of Allaah.''
`Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Zayd Ibn Aslam said, "This is due to its anger on behalf of Allaah, the Mighty and Sublime.''
This is a grave and sinister claim of the christians who lie against Allaah and His Messengers by saying Allaahhas taken ‘Eesa Ibn Maryam (‘alayhis salaam) as His son. Obscene is their statement and filthy their belief. Far above is Allaah from that which they attribute to Him. These statements are not befitting for the One Who has no co-equal in His creation; for all of creation return to Him as slaves.
And on this day, the day in which the kuffaar (non-Muslims) commemorate this blasphemy by celebrating, according to them, the birth of Eesaa Ibn Maryam, our Shaykh Muhammad al-Imaam (hafidhahullaah) will explain to us the gravity of this heinous statement of theirs, the extent of its severity and admonish us concerning the correct belief of Muwahhideen (The People of Tawheed) on this topic.
We ask Allaah to correct our belief and guide us to the straight path; the path of those whom He has favoured and not the path of those who have earned His anger or of those who have gone astray.

Men: Let Your Beard Grow!

Shaving the moustache and leaving the beard to grow

Question: If a man shaves his moustache and leaves his beard (to grow), is there any sin in this? And what did the Messenger (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) used to do?

Response: All Praise is for Allaah the One, and prayers and salutations upon His Messenger, upon his family and his companions. To proceed…

The Sunnah is to trim the moustache and not to remove it as the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:

((Trim the moustaches and leave the beards (to grow) and oppose (differ) from the mushrikoon)). The authenticity of this hadeeth is agreed upon by al-Bukhaaree and Muslim.

If he shaved it (off) then there is nothing (no sin) upon him. As for the beard, then it is obligatory to leave it (to grow) as the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:

((Trim the moustaches and leave the beards (to grow), (in doing so) oppose (differ from) the mushrikoon)).

And with Allaah lies all success and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) and his family and his companions.

You Can Do It! - #2

“Whoever asks Allah for Paradise three times [Allahumma inni as'aluk al-Jannah], then Paradise will say: ‘O Allah! Enter him into Paradise!’

And whoever seeks protection with Allah from the Fire three times [Allahumma najjini min an-Nar], the Fire will say: ‘O Allah! Protect him from the Fire!’”

Women: Covering the Feet in Prayer #2

Is it Permissible for a Woman to Pray Without Socks or With a Short Garment?

Questioner: Our teacher, many women go to the masjid for prayer without socks, they perform their prayer without socks.

Shaikh Al-Albani: Whether they go or not (to the masjid) their prayer in their houses without socks is an invalid prayer.

Questioner: Even in the house?

Shaikh Al-Albani: Even in the house, so how about the masjid?

Questioner: May Allah reward you.

Shaikh Al-Albani: And you also.

Another Questioner: Even if she completely covers her feet?

Shaikh Al-Albani: How do you imagine that she covers her feet? In the present day there are no women who drag their garments (because of it being long), but if you can picture this case then the prayer is correct, and the issue is that her feet are uncovered, however if her feet are covered, for example: her dress is loose and long where it covers her feet, then this is what is wanted from the women when she prays in her home or in the masjid, but sadly today women don’t have long clothing.

Questioner: Ok, do the socks cover, O teacher?

Shaikh Al-Albani: The socks cover and don’t cover. They cover the color of the skin, but they don’t cover the shape of the foot, therefore from the conditions of the garment that covers the private parts for men – aside from women – is that it is not transparent where the color of the skin is visible, and it is not tight where it defines the body part. So the garment is not permissible unless it contains these two characteristics, it’s not transparent and not tight.

Questioner: Ok, do the socks define the body part?

Shaikh Al-Albani: Absolutely, they define.

Questioner: Ok, how do they cover in prayer?

Shaikh Al-Albani: With time they cover; they cover and don’t cover. And I explained to you in detail how they cover and don’t cover.

Questioner: Meaning, the woman must wear socks in prayer?

Shaikh Al-Albani: I said, and I am still saying – she must cover her feet with a loose and wide garment, as for the socks they cover and they don’t cover, my words are clear.

Questioner: Is it better to wear socks?

Shaikh Al-Albani: If her garment is long […] if her garment is long where it covers her feet whether she wears socks or not, what is meant is a covering that is not tight or transparent. Socks without a garment over them define the body part, but they cover the skin color and this is not enough, so it is necessary for the garment to cover the color and the shape.
Notice the feet covered by the garment

Questioner: Our teacher, in regards to nullification of the prayer, but they don’t have knowledge of these things.

Shaikh Al-Albani: Yes, they don’t have knowledge but they can learn, so if they learn and remain lenient then their prayer is invalid.

Live Lecture! Shaykh Fu'ad Al Amri - Correct Aqeedah Series

Bismillaah wa -Alhamdulillaah wa Salaatu wa Salaam 'alaa Rasulillaah 'amma ba'd
On Monday 24thDecember, 2012, Muwahhideen Publications will host another LIVE tele-link lecture with Shaykh Fu'ad Ibn Sa'ud al-'Amri (hafidhahullaah), from the mashayikh of Jeddah, K.S.A. and a member of The Saudi Commission for Enjoining Good & Forbidding Vice. The Shaykh will continue with part four of our “Correct ‘Aqeedah” online series of lectures with the topic, “An In-depth Critique of the Ash’ari and Matureedi‘Aqeedah”.
This lecture event will be translated LIVE into English by Hisham Abouzeid, Inshaa Allaah.
Prophet Muhammad (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,
“Indeed, the people of the Book before you split-up into seventy-two sects. And this nation will split-up into seventy-three sects, seventy two are in the Fire and one is in Paradise.” [Related by Aboo Daawood (no. 4597) and Ahmad (4/102) and it was authenticated by al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr in Takhreej Ahaadeethul-Kashaaf (no. 63).]
In current times there exists numerous groups and parties all claiming to be upon the truth but in reality, are inviting the people to the gates of the hell-fire. Many deviant sects disguise themselves in the cloak of Islaamyet hold and propagate ideologies that are in total contradiction to the pure teachings of this deen.
Two such groups are the Ash’aris and Matureedis, the creed followed by Al-Azhar University in Egypt and the the deviant group known as the Jama'at at-Tableegh who are perhaps one of the largest of the misguideded groups today . Both groups are from those who subscribe to ‘Ilmul-Kalaam (theological rhetoric) and purport certain beliefs that are nothing less of sacrilege. They interpret matters based on their intellects rather than the texts and as a result of this have fallen into gross deviations. Some of their erroneous beliefs include that the Qur’aan is created; Allaah is neither part of nor outside of His creation, false interpretations and understanding of the Names and Attributes of Allaah and numerous other incorrect notions that are in great contradiction to the authentic creed of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah.
It is of extreme importance that we acquaint ourselves not only with the knowledge of the correct ‘Aqeedah but also of that which is in opposition to it so that we may be able to recognize falsehood and thus protect ourselves from it.
As Hudhayfah (radhiyAllaahu 'anhu) stated:
"The people use to ask the Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) about the good, and I use to ask him about the evil fearing that it would befall me." [Bukhari & Muslim]
Shaykh Fu’ad al-‘Amri (hafidhahullaah) will explain the beliefs of these deviated sects and clarify the correct‘Aqeedah and position of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah in matters where these groups have erred and by the Permission of Allaah we will all gain a better understanding of the correct ‘Aqeedah in these sittings.
May Allaah grant us understanding of this Deen and may He, Al-Haqq show us the truth and make it easy for us to follow it and show us the falsehood and make it easy for us to distance ourselves from it.

Celebrating Christmas

Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn Baaz

Question:

Our brother says: He notices that some of the Muslims participate along with the Christians in the Festival of the Birth, or Christmas as they call it; he hopes for some guidance regarding that.

Answer:

It is not permissible for the Muslim male or female to participate with the Christians, the Jews, or other than them from the disbelievers in their holidays. Rather, it is obligatory to abandon that. This is because:

مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ

“He who imitates a people is from them.”

And the Messenger ﷺ warned us against imitating them and adorning ourselves with their mannerisms. So it is upon the believing male and female to beware of that, and not to aid in the celebration of these holidays with anything. This is because they are holidays which oppose the Legislation of Allaah and the enemies of Allaah establish them. So it is not permissible to participate in them nor to cooperate with its people or to assist them with anything; not with (giving them) tea, coffee, or anything at all; such as utensils, and the likes. Also, Allaah the Glorified says:

وَتَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى الْبرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلاَ تَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى الإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ

Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwaa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. (Al-Ma’idah 5:2)

So participating with the disbelievers in their holidays is a type of helping them upon sin and transgression. Hence, it is obligatory upon every Muslim male and female to abandon that and it is not befitting for the one who has intellect to be deceived by the people in their actions. It is obligatory to ponder over the legislation of Al-Islaam and that which is has brought and to adhere to the command of Allaah and His Messenger, and not to look towards the affairs of the people. For most of the creation has no concern for the Legislation of Allaah. As Allaah the Mighty and Majestic has said:

وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِي الأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ

And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allaah’s Path. (Al-An’am 6:116)

He, Glorified be He, has said:

وَمَا أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly. (Yusuf 12:103)

So the holidays which oppose the Legislation, then it is not permissible to accept them, even if the people are doing it. For the believer weighs his actions and statements, and the actions and statements of the people, by the Book and the Sunnah; the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ. That which coincides with them or one of them, then it is accepted, even if the people have abandoned it. That which opposes them or one of them, then it is rejected, even if the people do it. And may Allaah grant all Tawfeeq and guidance.

Marriage: Aspiring To Marry A Student Of Knowledge

Question: “Is it allowed for a woman to make a condition that the one proposing to her must be a student of knowledge?”

Shaykh al-Albaani (rahimahullaah) answers:

“Meaning, she wants the one proposing to be from the students of knowledge, so what’s the problem? So she wants him to be a righteous man, but she also keenly desires (both) righteous and a student of knowledge. Of course, when she is making this requirement for him to be a student of knowledge, she does not mean someone who is not righteous. Thus, she means one who is (both) righteous and a student of knowledge. What is the problem with this? If only all young women were of this kind.

Women: Covering the Feet in Prayer

Q: “Should a woman cover her feet when she prays?”

Shaikh al-Albaani:

“It is not permissible for her to pray with her feet uncovered, indeed it is not permissible for her to walk in the streets with her feet uncovered, because the feet are part of a woman’s `awrah based on Allaah’s عز وجل Saying: {And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment}.[1] The woman during the Days of Ignorance used to wear what is known in the Arabic language as khalkhaal (anklet), meaning a bracelet with small bells. So when the woman walked, she – in order to turn the men’s attention to her – would strike the ground with her feet so the anklet would make a noise and the men would hear that; and such was due to shaitaan’s whisperings to her.

This means that the feet used to be covered. Because of what? Because of the jilbaab that the women were commanded to cast down from over their heads, according to Allaah’s Saying: {O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their outer garments  (jilbaabs) close upon themselves}.[2] And it is mentioned in the authentic hadeeth that the Prophet ﷺ said one day during a gathering in which there were also women: ‘Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allaah عز وجل will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection.’ One of the women said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah, then our feet will be exposed.’ He ﷺ said: ‘let the women lengthen (their garments) by a hand-span.’ She said: ‘Then a wind will come and uncover (their feet).’ He ﷺ said: ‘let them add another hand-span, i.e. (a total of) one cubit, and not go beyond that.’[3] [4]

In this manner, the jilbaab of the Muslim woman – at the time of the revelation of the above-mentioned verse: {to draw their outer garments (jilbaabs) close upon themselves} – used to cover the feet since the socks that are widespread nowadays among both women and men were not widespread at that time. The woman used to cover her shins and feet with the long jilbaab that resembles the `abaa.ah. Therefore it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to uncover her feet while she is on the street, and it is even more impermissible for her to pray with her feet uncovered.”

[1] Surat un-Noor 24:31
[2] Surat ul-Ahzaab 33:59
[3] the Shaikh mentioned the general meaning, not the exact wording, of the woman’s speech
