Live Lecture! Shaykh Muhammad As-Sowmalee: The Traits of Hypocrisy

On Wednesday 9^thDecember, 2012, Muwahhideen Publications will host a LIVE tele-link lecture with Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih as-Sowmalee (May Allaah Preserve Him), who is from the senior scholars of Yemen. The Shaykh teaches at Masjid al Khayr in Sana'a,Yemen and is from amongst the foremost students of Ash-Shaykh Al-Allaamah Al-Muhaddith, The Imaam of Yemen, Abu ‘Abdur Rahmaan Muqbil Ibn Hadee al-Waadi’ee (rahimahullah). This event will be broadcast LIVE in Masjid Ibn 'Abbaas, Tobago, two masaajid in Trinidad, Masjid ul Khaleefah and Masjid us Sunnah, and six masaajid in the U.S. Masjid Al-Bukhaari, Florida, Masjid Ibn 'Abbas, Georgia, Masjid Uthaymeen, New Jersey, Masj id Nur Allaah, New York, Masjid as-Sahabah, Ohio and Masjid Tawheed, Michigan.

It is reported in the two saheehs from ‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Amr (radhiyAllaahu ‘anhu) that the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

“There are four [qualities], whosoever has them is a hypocrite and whosoever has a characteristic of these four possesses a characteristic of hypocrisy until he leaves it: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks it, when he makes a covenant he proves treacherous, and when he argues he behaves in an imprudent and uncouth manner.” [Reported by Bukhaaree [Eng. Trans. 1/31 no. 33, 3/382 no. 639, 4/269 no. 403] and Muslim [Eng. Trans. 1/40 no. 111].

It is important to note however that these characteristics refer to the hypocrisy of actions and not the hypocrisy of belief as this (hypocrisy of belief) removes an individual from the fold of Islaam. Nevertheless, it is something that we should all fear for ourselves and must be diligent in constantly taking account of ourselves lest we enter into the realm of nifaaq (hypocrisy).

Al-Bukhaaree mentions from Ibn Abee Mulaykah that he said,

“I have met thirty of the Companions of Muhammad (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) all of them fearing hypocrisy for themselves.” [Reported by Bukhaaree [Eng. Trans. 1/40 chpt. 37] as a mu’allaq narration, designating it with certainty and quoted its complete isnaad in ‘Taarikh al-Kabeer‘ [3/1/137]

Our Shaykh Muhammad as-Sowmalee (hafidhahullaah) will admonish us concerning this critical issue and by the permission of Allaahcause us to understand the gravity of the affair so that we may safeguard ourselves from falling into it.

We ask Allaah to grant us sincerity and we seek refuge in Him from hypocrisy, whether it be of belief or action.

Live Lecture! Shaykh Muhammad al Wasabi: When The Fitnah Rages Seek Sanctuary

On Thursday 27^thDecember, 2012, Muwahhideen Publications will host a LIVE tele-link lecture with Ash-Shaykh Al-Allaamah Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul Wahhab al-Wasaabee (hafidhahullaah), who is from the major scholars of Yemen. The Shaykh is a student of the likes of Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez Ibn Baaz, Shaykh Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaani, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen, Shaykh Muqbil Ibn Hadee al-Waadi’ee, Shaykh Hammad al-Ansaari, Shaykh Bakr Ibn ‘Abdullaah Abu Zayd and others. Shaykh Muqbilreferred to Shaykh Muhammad al- Wasaabee as the Mufti of Yemen in some of his lessons. Abu Hurayrah (radhiyAllaahu ‘anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

“There shall soon be a Fitnah (trial and tribulation): the one who sits in that time is better than the one who stands, and the one who stands is better than the one who walks, and the one who walks is better than the one who hastens to it. And the closer you get to it, the closer it would get to you. Therefore, whoever is able to seek refuge in a shelter, let him do it.” [Bukhari #3602, Muslim #6886]

According to Shaykh Ibn Baaz (rahimahullaah), “The temptations that are meant in this hadeeth are the ones that are vague and ambiguous, and the way of truth in them is unknown; rather it is mixed up. Such are the temptations which the believer is advised to abstain from and stay far away from it with whatever way necessary.”

Additionally, Hudhayfah Ibn al-Yamaan (radhiyAllaahu 'anhu) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah(sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) say,

“Trials and Tribulations will be presented to the hearts just like as a reed mat is interwoven, stick by stick. Any heart which absorbs these trials will have a black mark put in it. However, any heart that rejects them will have a white mark put in it. The result is that hearts will be of (one of) two kinds: one white like a white stone, which will not be harmed by trials as long as the heavens and earth endure; and the other dark and rusty, like an over-turned vessel, not able to recognize the good, nor reject evil, but rather being absorbed with its desires.”

According to Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah), "The fitan (trials) which are presented to the hearts - and which are the cause of its weakness - are the trials relating to shahwah (false desire) and the trials relating toshubhah (doubt). So the first causes intentions and desires to be corrupted, whilst the second causes knowledge and beliefs to be corrupted.”

In this deranged time, fitan seems to be coming to the believer from all directions and in order to safeguard our hearts we must stick to the deen of Allaah and the sunnah of His Messenger (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) as much as we are able and not delve into matters in which we are not qualified to engage in.

Our Noble Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul Wahhab al-Wasaabee (hafidhahullaah) will present us with the many proofs from the book and the sunnah pertaining to this crucial topic as we are all in dire need of learning about the means by which we can escape these fitan and preserve our Deen.

We ask Allaah to keep our feet firm upon the Straight Path and we seek refuge in Him from ever deviating from it.
