Allaah says in His Book,

O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salaat (the prayer). Truly! Allaah is with As-Saabirin (the patient ones, etc.). [Al-Baqarah 2:153]

Patience is a trait that is greatly praised by Allaah and according to Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah), Allaah has mentioned it in 90 places in the Qur’aan. The ahadeeth that allude to it are numerous and our scholars have written extensively on the topic. Indeed the affair of having patience is great and is needed in every single sphere of our lives. It is something that requires much striving to attain but its reward is tremendous.

Sulayman Ibn Qaasim said, “The reward for every action is known, except the reward for patience. Allaah Ta’ala said, “Only those who are patient will receive their rewards in full without reckoning.” Then Sulayman said, “Like heavy rainfall.”

The Noble Shaykh, ‘AbdulQaadir (hafidhahullaah) will explain to us the affair regarding patience in Islaam according to the Book and the sunnah with the understanding of the salaf-us-saalih and by the permission of Allaah bring some comfort to us and encourage us to persevere.

We ask Allaah to grant us patience in being steadfast upon His obedience, patience in staying away from His prohibitions and patience upon His Decree.

Allaah the Most High says,

“O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islaam and do not follow the footsteps of shaytaan. Verily! He is to you a plain enemy.” [Al-Baqarah: 208]

Allaah consistently warns His slaves about this open enemy to mankind throughout the Qur’aan and likewise His Messenger (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). This enemy, who has sworn to mislead us and is determined to take as many of the children of Aadam with him to the hell-fire as possible.

It is upon us to know our enemy and equip ourselves with that which we can use to wage war against him. But this is not a battle that is fought with physical weaponry but it is our firm establishment of the deen and doing that which our Lord has commanded us with and staying away from that which He prohibited that will lead us to victory in this battle against the shaytaan. We must first strive to purify our souls and fight against our desires before we can lay waste the enemy.

As Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah) beautifully stated,

“Du’aa is like a weapon, and a weapon is only as good as the person who is using it; it is not merely the matter of how sharp it is. If the weapon is perfect and free of faults, and the arm of the person using it is strong, and there is nothing stopping him, then he can lay waste the enemy. But if any of these three features is lacking, then the effect will be lacking accordingly.”

Shaykh Mustafa Mubram (hafidhahullaah) will enlighten us concerning the affair of the shaytaan and his enmity to us and mention some of the ways in which we can safeguard ourselves from his wicked scheming.

We ask Allaah to make us firm upon His Deen and protect us from the plots of the shaytaan.

From Abee Sa'eed al-Khudree (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) who said:

“The women said to the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam): ‘The men have overtaken you, so make for us a day from yourself.’ So he promised them a day in which to meet them. So he admonished them, and commanded them.” [to the end of the hadeeth] [Related in Saheehul Bukhaaree (1/102)]

In following the perfect example of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), Shaykh Rashaad al-Hubaishi will offer an important piece of advice to our respected sisters in Islaam, specifically to those residing in these western lands of disbelief.

On the authority of Abu Ruqayya Tameem ibn Aus ad-Daaree (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) that the Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

The deen (religion) is naseehah (advice/sincerity)'. We said 'To whom?' He said 'To Allaah and His Book, and His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk.' [Related by Muslim]

Our Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam) was the foremost in giving advice, especially towards his Ummah (nation). One of his major companions, Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) said: “Allaah’s Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam) had left us in the following state: that there was not even a bird flapping its wings in the air without his having already imparted to us knowledge about it. Then he said (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam): ‘Nothing remains that brings you closer to Paradise or further from the Hellfire except that it has been explained to you’.” [al-Mu`jam al-Kabîr (2/155-156)]

Many times the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam) would give advice and admonish his companions with monumental pieces of advice. Even the bedouin would approach him for advice and he would admonish him appropriately with what befits him.

The noble Shaykh Ruzayq al-Qurayshee (hafidhahullaah), will bring forth one of these exemplary advices and remind us of it, that we may benefit ourselves, our familes, and all those around us, inshaaAllaah.

We ask Allaah to soften our hearts to His, 'Azza wa Jall, speech in the Qur'aan and the Meseenger's (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)words, and make it easy for us to follow and implement in our lives, until we die.

It is reported in the two saheehs from ‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Amr (radhiyAllaahu ‘anhu) that the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

“There are four [qualities], whosoever has them is a hypocrite and whosoever has a characteristic of these four possesses a characteristic of hypocrisy until he leaves it: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks it, when he makes a covenant he proves treacherous, and when he argues he behaves in an imprudent and uncouth manner.” [Reported by Bukhaaree [Eng. Trans. 1/31 no. 33, 3/382 no. 639, 4/269 no. 403] and Muslim [Eng. Trans. 1/40 no. 111].

It is important to note however that these characteristics refer to the hypocrisy of actions and not the hypocrisy of belief as this (hypocrisy of belief) removes an individual from the fold of Islaam. Nevertheless, it is something that we should all fear for ourselves and must be diligent in constantly taking account of ourselves lest we enter into the realm of nifaaq (hypocrisy).

Al-Bukhaaree mentions from Ibn Abee Mulaykah that he said,

“I have met thirty of the Companions of Muhammad (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) all of them fearing hypocrisy for themselves.” [Reported by Bukhaaree [Eng. Trans. 1/40 chpt. 37] as a mu’allaq narration, designating it with certainty and quoted its complete isnaad in ‘Taarikh al-Kabeer‘ [3/1/137]

Our Shaykh Muhammad as-Sowmalee (hafidhahullaah) will admonish us concerning this critical issue and by the permission of Allaahcause us to understand the gravity of the affair so that we may safeguard ourselves from falling into it.

We ask Allaah to grant us sincerity and we seek refuge in Him from hypocrisy, whether it be of belief or action.
